From a residents' family - St Catherines

"My mum feels very happy. She is treated as an individual and the care she received is of a very high quality." - Sheila Bright

When Alzheimer's began to take a real grip on Kathleen's life, the family of the 86-year-old knew it was no longer possible for her to stay in her home.

Kathleen's family were caring for her and due to reduced mobility, she could not even go downstairs in her home.

The family then began to look for residential care homes with nursing care in the York area and one of the first ones they short-listed was St Catherines, which is owned by Wellburn Care Homes.

Kathleen's daughter, Sheila Bright, says: "We had done our research beforehand and knew St Catherines had been rated excellent in its most recent inspection, which was a big plus for us.

"When we visited the home we were struck by how lovely it was from the outside - it is a beautiful building with nice grounds.

"But once you get inside it is just as nice and what struck me immediately was its warm and friendly atmosphere and the kindness of the staff."

Kathleen moved into St Catherines in September 2010 and has settled really quickly.

Sheila added: "My mum feels very happy there. She is treated as an individual and the care she receives is of a very high quality.

"We can tell that staff spend so much time with her because after they talk to her she is able to verbalise so much more, which is fantastic."
