Here at family-run Wellburn Care Homes, our residents and staff love being part of our lovely communities. And this Christmas, we want to say a little thank you for making us feel so welcome and part of what makes our community so special.
Our Book Fairy campaign aims to sprinkle a little bit of festive fairy dust, by preparing free book gifts and leaving them in public places to be discovered by lucky recipients. And if you’re reading this, then you’re one of them! Enjoy your book, and once you’ve read it, why not continue the story and leave it out for someone else to discover and enjoy the gift of the Book Fairy?

How it works.
Our Book Fairy initiative is designed to spread magic and festive cheer by sharing great reads with lucky finders in our local communities. Every day, books ranging from family favourites to clothbound classics will be left at various secret locations in the communities that surround our care homes, up and down the North East and North Yorkshire.
Step 1.
To make the Book Fairy magic happen, our helpers at Wellburn HQ are busy behind the scenes, selecting great reads to package up and ready each and every book for the Book Fairy run. Using special weatherproof wrapping makes sure that the Book Fairy can visit local communities, and leave the secret parcels come rain or shine!
Step 2.
With care homes in Northumberland, Newcastle, Sunderland, York and North Yorkshire, our Book Fairy has a lot of miles to cover! Books are being left across all locations in and around our homes - always left at random and in random places too, so keep your eyes peeled. Our map below shows the Book Fairy’s coverage.
Step 3.
And because our books are left in random places and at random times, it means anyone could find one at any time. Each package comes with an explanation about our initiative, which also encourages the lucky finder to read it and then leave it out again - helping to spread the Book Fairy magic throughout their community!

Where our fairy visits.
Although we specifically focus on the immediate communities our homes are situated in, our Book Fairy's coverage is far and wide. With 14 care homes covering all four corners of the North East and North Yorkshire, reaching as far north as our Garden House care home in Berwick and as far south as our Grimston Court care home in York, our Book Fairy will be kept busy this Christmas. She will be visiting a range of different locations, all within easy reach of our care homes: think local schools, parks and monuments. All you need to do is head outside and keep your eyes peeled!
